Welcome to Lavender Cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is a converted barn with its own private courtyard and access to a secluded walled summerhouse garden, which has a hot tub and Swedish sauna. It is set within the 5 acre grounds of Knottside Farm in glorious Nidderdale, North Yorkshire with stunning views towards Pateley Bridge and up the Dale to the west.
Lavender Cottage sleeps 2-4 with an open plan living area which has a sofa, two armchairs, dining table, a king size very comfy bed, TV with Freeview & Amazon 'Fire Stick' and Wi-Fi. There are two further separate single bedrooms leading off from the living area (also with very comfy beds!), a bathroom with walk-in shower and a well-equipped kitchen. All of the accommodation at Lavender Cottage is on one floor, with the exception of one small step at each end of the kitchen (both with handrails) and one small step in the bathroom into the shower. It is therefore ideal for those with reduced mobility or small children. A high chair and travel cot can be provided on request and additional mobility aids, such as a raised toilet seat, toilet support stand and a removable shower seat are also available if required.
The cottage is about 1 mile from Pateley Bridge, which was voted ‘Britain’s Best Village High Street’ in 2017, including the famous ‘oldest sweet shop in the world’ which has been trading continuously since 1827! There are some great country pubs in the area serving good quality meals and a selection of local real ales. There are also a range of very nice cafes and some very fine dining, including The Sportsman Arms at Wath which is about 3 miles away, Grantley Hall which is 6 miles away and home to several top class restaurants, including one with a Michelin star, and The Black Swan at Oldstead, another Michelin starred restaurant about 30 miles away which won the Travellers Choice Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World in 2017, the first time a British restaurant has taken the top spot since the awards began.
The local attractions range from How Stean Gorge and Stump Cross Caverns to the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Garden and The Forbidden Corner (if you have children it’s a must and they will love it!). And if you enjoy walking you are spoilt for choice right on your doorstep. Turn left out of the gate and you are on Panorama Walk, which is part of the Nidderdale Way.
Please note that as there are sheep, lambs and hens in the adjacent fields, unfortunately we cannot accept pets, no matter how well behaved they normally are.

8th July 2019 - Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. In the grounds of the neatly kept farm, so hens cluck around the door. A delightful summerhouse for sitting in. Close enough to walk into the charming Pateley Bridge in ten minutes (although a steep walk back uphill) and lots of lovely walks in the area.
-------------------------------------
28th June 2019 - Superb location with gorgeous views across the valley. 20 minutes walk out of Pateley Bridge which has some good pubs/restaurants and shops. Good walks from the cottage. Ceiling beams are quite low so taller people need to be careful! Nice to relax in the sauna after a days walking.
--------------------------------------
24th May 2019 - I was not disappointed. Wonderful little cottage in a beautiful location. For me, I especially liked that from the window next to one of the beds, I could see chickens that visit the cottage and the small wildlife as the windows are at eye-level to the ground. The cottage is warm, cosy and very comfortable. Whilst visiting we drove out to Whitby and York and a few surrounding villages, very quintessentially British. Pure loveliness, with very friendly people.

4th August 2018 - We have just returned from a week at Lavender Cottage and would definitely return. The location is great for exploring the Dales and the views from the Cottage are stunning. The hosts were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The Cottage has everything you need and the summerhouse and sauna are a delightful bonus. Well worth a visit.

17th June 2018 - Fabulous cottage, near to lots of things to do. The hosts are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We will definitely visit again.
--------------------------------------
15th April 2018 - Fantastic location and beautiful views, very comfortable beds we really enjoyed our visits from the chickens every morning! We loved the walk from the cottage into Pateley Bridge along the bridle way. Then did a lovely loop back to Pateley Bridge along the Nidderdale Way up to Prosperous Smelt Mill where we encountered a wonderful Red Kite bird of pray circling high above the mill. If you want good traditional food and ale you cant beat the Craven Arms at Appletreewick, although it does get very busy. The welcome pack was excellent we loved the plum jam and rhubarb cordial. Thank you to the owners you made us feel very welcome!
